Cervical screening is one of the most important things women can do to protect their health - and during Women’s Health Week, we wanted to make it a little easier to take that step.
As part of Women’s Health Week, we took free cervical screening out into the community, joining the team at 275 Markets in Māngere to offer screening in a familiar and accessible setting. We were also joined by Dame Valerie Adams, who has a deeply personal reason for championing cervical screening: she lost her mum to cervical cancer when she was just 39.
Valerie’s story is a powerful reminder of why awareness, education and access to screening matter - particularly for Māori and Pacific communities, where we need to keep working to remove barriers to care.
Our day at the markets was captured by TVNZ Seven Sharp, who joined us to share Valerie’s story and highlight the new way of doing cervical screening.
